SING WITH ME!

THE BALLAD OF THE ZOJIRUSHI RICE COOKER

Here's a box, a big, big box
do-dah, do-dah
Full of icky packing peanuts
do-dah, do-dah
Enough to fill up two (!) bags full
Oh the do-dah day!

Here's a box inside a box
do-dah, do-dah
And lots more peanuts underneath
Oh the do-dah day!

Inside this box is a plastic cooking machine
do-dah, do-dah
It does all sorts of wondrous things
Oh the do-dah day!

It's gonna cook all night
It's gonna cook all day
And in the end we'll have some rice
Oh the do-dah day!

Here it is inside it's box
Do-dah, do-dah
Full of Styrofoam and plastic things
Oh the do-dah day!

Here it is free of its confines
do-dah, do-dah
Waitin' on Judy to learn its secrets
Oh the do-dah day!

Gonna cook all night. . .gonna cook all day. . .and in the end we'll have some rice. . .
Oh the do-dah day!

HELLO! MY NAME IS ZOJIRUSHI RICE COOKER AND I COME FROM THE LAND OF PLASTIC (oops! I mean China).

WOULDN'T YOU LIKE A BOWL OF RICE?

LOVE,

"ZOJI"

IT'S ABOUT TIME!!

Finally, the SLUG got out of bed! Now, go get us our breakfast!

A THRIFTING SHE DID GO

I went treasure hunting on June 3rd.

My stops included Salvation Army, Arc Value Village, Rewear Warehouse, St. Vincent de Paul, Lincoln Thrift and Saver's.

This picture--well, it's not really a picture but rather needlework behind glass--was purchased at S.A. for $7.00 (with a 30% off coupon).

It was dusty, smeared with sticker stick-um and stuck behind several '80's-type monstrosities, yet it "spoke" to me and its message was loud and clear.

"YOU LIKE ME!" "YOU WANT ME!" "YOU WILL BUY ME!"

So I did. And I am glad I did, for it is more than pretty and looking at it brings about a sense of calm.

The colors are muted hues of green and pink, with an intense POP of fuchsia in the center of each flower. The little bird is serene and charming. She is gazing far-off in search of the unknown. What was that she heard? A prowling cat, perhaps?

Looking at it makes me feel like I'm in a bamboo jungle on the edge of a deserted beach. Filtered light, cool ocean breezes, the pounding of the surf.

No cares, no worries, no concerns.

Funny how one person's cast-off becomes another's great prize.

I think my $7.00 was well spent.

COMPOSTING 101

Galvanized metal trashcans from the Home Depot. Prior prepping involved drilling holes in the sides and bottom of each can, which allow worms (?) to come and help with the process. (So far, have only seen ants.) Lids lock in place to keep out unwanted critters.

Here's Michael (yes, he needs to get out in the sun and tan those legs!) getting the composting spot ready for the cans.

TA-DA!
Project finished!
The only problem is the size of the cans. In my mind, I was expecting BIG cans and with the amount of produce that is now consumed in this household, I'm filling these little guys up rather quickly.
AND. . .I found out that it can take from 4-6 months (?!) for composting to actually happen!!

YIKES!

The ONLY way to buy!!

THE ADVENTURES OF JACQUES LAPIN

Six o'clock! Rise and shine!! (Gimme just five more minutes! Please!!)

Perhaps the crystal ball will help me decide what to do today. . .

Should I work on my BLOG? Surf the web? Play some games?

Log some miles to nowhere while watching DARK SHADOWS?

Maybe catch a flick or two?

Read a good book?

This much I know. . .
. . .Gotta have a cup o' Joe.
What do YOU think I should do?
Please help me decide.
Love, Jacques

Happy 84th Birthday to Marilyn Monroe!

It took me three tries, but I finally finished watching this movie! A musical-comedy released in 1954, it's an Irving Berlin extravaganza with lots of singing, dancing and growing up angst and drama. Mitzi Gaynor's hoofing skills are beyond belief--she's absolutely fabulous! And of course Marilyn Monroe is the epitome of beauty. Her "singing and dancing" can best be described as feathery whispers and shoulder shimmy's but she was the reason for me watching this film. She was an underrated actress and deserved better from Hollywood.
